New York City is famous for the many iconic attractions and places that draw crowds each year. However, every summer, the Big Apple also plays host to a number of outstanding festivals. Various local parks are the place to be for cultural fun, live concerts and amazing art exhibits. Regardless of age or interest, there are summer festivals to appeal to all.

Panorama Music Festival

The popular Coachella festival in California is just the beginning of the summer’s music offerings. The Panorama Music Festival is the East Coast’s answer to the spectacular West Coast event. The festivities last for three days toward the end of each July and takes place on Randalls Island. A long list of bands, vocalists and DJs entertain the crowds accompanied by light shows and animated special effects in the background. A variety of artists also create larger than life sculptures to the delight of spectators. Vendors are on hand throughout the weekend to provide beverages, food and merchandise.

Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival takes place during the second weekend in August and provides guests with the chance to get a taste of traditional Asian culture in addition to satisfying the need for competition. Each year, more than 150 teams from across the country paddle to the beat of their drummer as they make their way across Meadow Lake. Races are divided into different divisions. All compete for cash, trophies and other awards. The Flushing Meadows-Corona Park event also features authentic Chinese music and dance presentations along with the chance to indulge in a variety of Asian and popular fair foods. While many cities in the United States host similar events, the festival held in New York is considered one of the largest in North America.
